A NEW DIGITIZED BEAT: DJ_DAVE

  • Rialto Center for Creativity 250 East Broad Street Westfield, NJ, 07090 United States (map)

Attend this month’s Spotlight Series to hear from DJ_Dave, WHS Class of 2016, about an unlikely creative pairing that combines creativity, technology, artistry, and feminism. DJ_Dave is an electronic artist and producer synonymous with the art of live coding—creating music in real-time with code.

Bypassing traditional interfaces and MIDI controllers, her production and performance methods center on direct text-based programming and real-time sound synthesis. This innovative approach is integral to both her studio production and her uniquely transparent live performances. By generating all sound on stage, projecting a live feed of her code, and incorporating live vocals, DJ_Dave blends live and electronic elements in a way few audiences have ever witnessed.
Her rise to prominence in 2025 was fueled by sharing her creative journey online, allowing viewers to watch as she built new tracks from scratch through code alone. This distinctive style has cultivated a dedicated following. Her fans are deeply engaged, though often for different reasons: some are drawn to the futuristic and inventive nature of her performance, while others admire her masterful revival of past technologies.

More than a musician, DJ_Dave is a trailblazer at the intersection of art and technology. As a vocal proponent of creative coding and ethical digital practices, she is shaping a new frontier for electronic music.

Watch this month’s event to hear from one of the first artists in America to make algorave music mainstream.
